Carson Benge isn’t going to be thrilled if base runners finally decide against gambling on his arm.
It’s a right arm that had thrown out seven runners this season, entering play, which included pegs in consecutive games against the Nationals over the weekend. Benge’s assist total was tied for fourth in the National League among outfielders as Monday’s play began.
Will teams stop running on him?
“I hope not,” Benge said at Citi Field before the Mets faced the Padres. “That is one of the parts of my game that I am prouder about is being able to show off whenever I can. It’s real fun.”
