Father and 22-month-old son vanish during ‘normal’ afternoon walk

A massive multi-state search is underway after a father and his young son vanished during a “normal” afternoon walk from their Illinois home, according to authorities and reports.

Todd Sabatini, 36, left his home in McHenry to take his 22-month-old son, Theo, “for a walk” around 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, according to the McHenry Police Department and People.

Despite the afternoon walk being “normal activity” for the father and son, concerned family members contacted police after the pair did not return home within a few hours, the outlet reported.

Officers then learned that it was “unusual behavior for Todd” and that the father did not have the “necessary provisions for an extended excursion with Theo,” police told the outlet.

Theo’s stroller was later discovered behind a local business, and security footage captured Sabatini “attempting to make contact with someone within the Zion Lutheran Church” at a supermarket, police added.

The dad also spoke with someone at Taco Bell, the outlet reported.

Police said the father and son then bizarrely took a rideshare to the Greenfield Police Department in Wisconsin, roughly an hour’s drive from the Illinois city.

There, Sabatini “spoke with an officer,” and left the police station “on foot” with Theo by 2 p.m. on Saturday, the outlet said. It’s unclear what Sabatini spoke with the officer about.

In a late Saturday update, the department said they have “reliable information putting Todd and Theo in Milwaukee,” and are working with law enforcement partners in Illinois and Wisconsin to continue the all-out search.

Theo was last seen wearing a blue shirt and dark colored shorts. Sabatini was wearing a blue-and-black colored flannel shirt, a grey tank top, jeans, and Converse shoes. He is now clean-shaven despite photos depicting him with a full beard.
