Marvel Studios is finally putting Ghost Rider into gear.
During the studio’s Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige officially announced that a Ghost Rider movie is on the way, with Ryan Gosling set to play the iconic antihero and Deadpool & Wolverine filmmaker Shawn Levy directing. The film is slated to hit theaters in 2028.
The announcement paid off years of speculation that Gosling could eventually join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Feige even poked fun at the persistent fan chatter before welcoming the Oscar-nominated actor to the stage, where he was met with thunderous applause.
“Wow, is this really happening?” Gosling asked the Hall H crowd. “As you know, this is a character I’ve wanted to play for a very long time.”
Gosling then revealed there was “only one director” he wanted to tackle the project before inviting Levy to join him onstage.
The pair recently wrapped work together on Star Wars: Starfighter, which arrives in theaters on May 28, 2027, and Levy said conversations about Ghost Rider gradually evolved from casual brainstorming into something much more serious.
“As Ryan started talking about his vision for this character, we started riffing,” Levy said. “And I finally said, ‘Bro, let’s ride.’ So guys, we’ll see you in 2028.”
Marvel has yet to reveal story details or confirm which incarnation of Ghost Rider Gosling will portray, but the Hall H reveal officially brings one of the MCU’s most frequently rumored fan castings to life.
Ghost Rider was just one of several headline-grabbing announcements Marvel packed into its Comic-Con presentation. Feige also confirmed that director Ryan Coogler is returning for a third Black Panther film, with Alien: Romulus breakout David Jonsson set to play the son of T’Challa (the late Chadwick Boseman) as the franchise enters a new chapter.
Fans also got word that Avengers: Endgame will return to theaters on September 25 with previously unseen footage ahead of Avengers: Doomsday, while Hall H attendees were treated to an exclusive look at Spider-Man: Brand New Day, featuring Tom Holland’s Spider-Man teaming up with Jon Bernthal’s Punisher against Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk.
The presentation wrapped with an extended showcase for Avengers: Doomsday, as directors Joe and Anthony Russo brought out a sprawling ensemble that included Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Pedro Pascal, Anthony Mackie, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden, Kelsey Grammer, Simu Liu, Hayley Atwell, and more.
After Downey teased his upcoming turn as Doctor Doom, Ryan Reynolds capped off the event with a surprise appearance in a gray Deadpool suit, closing out a Hall H panel that laid out Marvel’s theatrical roadmap through 2028.
