Californians can all agree on the need to treat other people with respect. If an individual feels that he or she wants to adopt a different gender identity, we can respect that wish.
But there are boundaries.
And they start with children.
Children are not mature enough to make life-changing decisions that will cause irreversible changes to their bodies and their fertility.
That is why children should not have surgery to remove their genitals or their breasts. They should not be prescribed drugs that block their hormones and prevent their bodies from developing.

And they certainly should not be pressured into making those decisions by unscrupulous doctors trying to make a buck, or school officials trying to make a point.
This week, The California Post published the story of several “detransitioners” — people who were encouraged, as minors, to take puberty blockers or to undergo surgery, and who later changed their minds.
The US Department of Health and Human Services issued a report this week, “Wolves in White Coats,” that concluded that doctors and hospitals — with encouragement from left-wing politicians — are pushing children toward inappropriate — and irreversible — treatments.

The doctors and hospitals stood to reap hundreds of millions of dollars.
California aided and abetted this horror.
Thanks to state Sen. Scott Wiener — now running for Nancy Pelosi’s congressional seat in San Francisco — and to Gov. Gavin Newsom, California became a “sanctuary state” for minors from other states seeking transgender drugs or surgeries.

Wiener’s bill, SB 107, shielded doctors and hospitals in California from releasing information to courts in other states about children who came (or were brought) to the state for so-called “gender-affirming care.”
It was just the latest absurd law pushed by Wiener, who has become infamous in Sacramento for championing extreme proposals, supposedly in service of LGBTQ+ rights.
Newsom shares the blame, too. He signed a law — later struck down by the Supreme Court — barring students from informing parents if their children decided to change their gender at school.
That left children at the mercy of teachers, guidance counselors and school health officials when considering dramatic medical treatments.
Newsom has repeatedly dodged questions about how young a child would have to be to be too young to qualify for transgender drugs and surgeries.
He and other Democrats lack the courage to stand up to the most radical elements in the LGBTQ+ movement.
It’s simple: Leave the kids alone.
