Ryan Murphy‘s new show The Shards premiered last night on FX and Hulu, introducing viewers to a fictionalized version of young Bret Easton Ellis (Igby Rigney) and his high school pals Susan (Kaia Gerber), Thom (Graham Campbell), and Debbie (Hayes Warner). The tight-knit quartet has enjoyed an easy life of excess and luxury, but that’s all about to change when a new student named Robert Mallory (Homer Gere) moves to town. Robert’s arrival coincides with a string of brutal slayings that authorities think are the work of a serial killer called the Trawler. Bret immediately thinks that Robert is this despicable villain, but is he?
The Shards is inspired by Bret Easton Ellis’s bestselling autofiction novel of the same name, a book that started off as an audiobook offered in installments to Ellis’s patreon subscribers. Now, it’s poised to be a hit FX show and the latest Ryan Murphy project to hold us all in a chokehold.

The Shards Episode 3 “Help Me! Rhonda!” will come out on FX and Hulu on Wednesday, August 12.
Coincidentally, The Shards Episode 4 “Robert’s Party” will also be making its debut on that date.

New episodes of The Shards come out at 9 PM ET (6 PM PT) on FX and Hulu.
