There is no doubt Anya Taylor-Joy is one of the most talented actors in her generation.
At just 30-years-old, she already has a Golden Globe, SAG Award, and an Emmy nomination to her name. Despite all the acclaim she’s received thus far in her career, Taylor-Joy is still choosing to star in exciting projects, each vastly different from the last. She’s even set to star as the elf Seren in the upcoming Lord of the Rings prequel film, The Hunt for Gollum. Good for her!
In her new limited series, Lucky, Taylor-Joy plays a con artist who finds herself on the run after she falls for her very own husband’s con. Not only does she lead the crime series, but she also serves as an executive producer alongside Reese Witherspoon.
The first three episodes of the series are now available to stream on Apple TV. You will be able to stream the next four episodes when they drop one-by-one every Wednesday.

Taylor-Joy’s career changed after the monumental success of The Queen’s Gambit. The Netflix show became a sensation during the COVID-19 pandemic, being one of the only good things to come from that period. The show is about Beth Harmon, an orphan who discovers her gift at playing chess and eventually makes it to the highest professional level of the game. A show about chess doesn’t sound the most interesting, but there’s something about Taylor-Joy journey as Beth that makes the show so watchable.

Who doesn’t love a good period piece? You would think the world wouldn’t need another adaptation of Jane Austen’s novel (especially after Clueless did it best)! but the 2020 film adaptation of Emma proved the critics wrong. Taylor-Joy stars as the Emma Woodhouse in the classic tale of the protagonist playing matchmaker for all the wrong reasons. I consider this to be one of Taylor-Joy’s underrated films maybe partly due to the fact that it was released a few weeks before COVID. This film deserves better!

In her first starring role, The Witch is a movie that will stay with you for a long time. This was the first collaboration between Taylor-Joy and visionary director Robert Eggers. The horror film takes place in the 1600s and deals with a Puritan family who starts to experience a battle with evil after their son goes missing, suspecting their daughter Thomasin is behind his disappearance and is secretly practicing witchcraft. Watch this one with the lights on.

It seems like it’s a requirement for Taylor-Joy to star in critically-acclaimed TV shows. The actress joined the show in its fifth season, well after it garnered a massive fan base. She plays the role of Gina Gray, and makes sure to cause a lot of chaos to the Shelby Family. Without spoilers, let’s just say Taylor-Joy really gets to play a villain, and she looks fabulous while doing so!

In my opinion, Last Night in Soho is the most underrated in Taylor-Joy’s entire filmography. It’s not like the Edgar Wright film was critically panned, but it did fail to connect with audiences. The film is about Eloise (Thomasin McKenzie) a fashion student who has weird dreams where she transports to 1960s London and becomes Sandy, an aspiring singer. Here, Taylor-Joy gets to show off her singing voice with a rendition of “Downtown.” It gets really campy, too!

The Menu is one delicious film. The horror-comedy stars Taylor-Joy and Nicholas Hoult as a “couple” who receive an invite to a highly exclusive restaurant with a wild menu. However, this isn’t your typical restaurant experience as things start to go awry. Without delving into spoilers, Taylor-Joy plays Margot, a protagonist who is hiding her true identity — which causes tension between her and the head chef (Ralph Fiennes) of the experience. If you’re looking for a story with many twists, this is your film!

Thoroughbreds deserved so much better. At the beginning of her career, Taylor-Joy and Olivia Cooke made for the perfect duo in this film. The dark comedy centers on two high schoolers, Lily and Amanda who decide to make a plan to kill Lily’s stepfather. If that sounds like an unpleasant watch, the film is actually so much more layered thanks to the great writing and performances.
